news

Today, Innersloth, Schell Games, and Robot Teddy announced Among Us VR will launch this 2022 holiday season. In addition, a new teaser trailer debuted today during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. Among Us VR will be available on Meta Quest and SteamVR headsets at launch. The game will be available on PlayStation®VR2 when the headset is released.

Among Us VR is a stand-alone experience, developed from the ground up, that draws inspiration from the much-loved design and mechanics in Among Us. In this immersive VR version, players will continue to enjoy gameplay centered around teamwork and betrayal. Complete with voice and text chat capabilities, online play, and hands, crewmates can play with 4 - 10 players as they wander the spaceship, complete tasks, and keep an eye out for the Impostor. Players will experience the same deception and deceit as the original award-winning game in their own virtual Skeld.

“We are so excited that our community will be able to experience Among Us VR later this year,” said Victoria Tran, Community Director for Innersloth. “Crewmates across the world will feel right at home in the VR version of the Skeld and are sure to enjoy the tension and thrills an immersive experience offers. Our team has had fun testing Among Us VR throughout the development process, and we can’t wait for the community to put on their headsets and play.”

Innersloth, developers of the award-winning party game Among Us, saw their space-based, sleuthing multiplayer game quickly rise to prominence as friends, families, and communities came together to repair ships and avoid the devious antics of Impostors. In 2020, Innersloth tapped video games consulting firm Robot Teddy to help bring the game to additional platforms and manage other facets of the business. Schell Games is working with both companies to bring Among Us to virtual reality platforms where players can fully immerse themselves in the universe Innersloth created.

“Our team works closely with Innersloth and Robot Teddy to stay true to the characteristics the community loves about Among Us,” said CEO Jesse Schell. “Adapting this title to the virtual reality space presents interesting challenges, like not making the game too scary, and wonderful opportunities, like modifying voice chat capabilities, to create an engaging experience that holds true to the original vision of the game.”

Among Us VR was born out of far too many DMs on sleepless nights, and it is beyond exciting to see what the partnership has created so far,” said Ranjani Natarajan, Director of Robot Teddy. “We’ve worked with Forest, Jesse and their teams for a few years now and the opportunity to set the gold standard for a social multiplayer VR game is too good to pass up!”

Players can now wishlist Among Us VR on the Meta Quest coming soon page and on Steam. Visit the Among Us VR website, follow the game on Twitter, or view the press kit for more information.
